BRETT MARVIN & THE THUNDERBOLTS formed in 1968 and on the invitation of the late great JO ANN KELLY, became the resident Sunday Band at the famous STUDIO 51 CLUB in Leicester Square London for four years, running a drop in spot for visiting blues musicians such as HOWLING WOLF,ARTHUR “BIG BOY” CRUDUP, FRED MCDOWELL,JUKE BOY BONNER,MEDICINE HEAD,STEVE MILLER BAND, LOL COXHILL, ,SAM MITCHELL,BOTTLE NECK BILL, MICK TAYLOR, LARRY JOHNSON, TONY MCPHEE,JOHN DUMMER BLUES BAND, THE GROUNDHOGS,DAVE KELLY,ROY BOOKBINDER AND LONG JOHN BALDRY.
They recorded on two compilation albums of British Blues FOR LIBERTY RECORDS in 1969,GASOLINE,and 1970, SON OF GUTBUCKET, quickly becoming one of the most popular bands on the university/college gig circuit.
After Signing to SONET RECORDS they recorded their first album BRETT MARVIN AND THE THUNDERBOLTS (LP Sonet STNF 616) and a compilation album, BEST OF FRIENDS.
European tours and television work followed in Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, and Holland.
The band then released three singles, ”Standing on a platform”,
“Thoughts on You” ,and Little Red caboose”
1971 saw them back in the UK for a concert with legendary SON HOUSE and two concerts with JOHN MAYALL AND THE BLUES BREAKERS after which they were invited on a national tour with ERIC CLAPTON aka DEREK AND THE DOMINOES.
Their second album, TWELVE INCHES OF BRETT MARVIN AND THE THUNDERBOLTS, (LP Sonet STNF 619) was release shortly after this, together with the chart topping single, SEA SIDE SHUFFLE (UK RECORDS) which they released under the pseudonym TERRY DACTYL & THE DINOSAURS, earning them a SILVER DISC and television appearances on TOP OF THE POPS and live radio shows.
